About Cummings of Jasper County, Iowa
Family tradition has that John Cummings was born in Ireland, and immigrated to the United States and settled in Loudoun County, Virginia. He died in Culpeper County, Virginia in 1826. His descendants later settled in the Muskingum and Warren Counties in Ohio, and then on to Jasper and Story Counties, in Iowa. With a combined effort on research from one of my cousins Carol Cummings, who went to all the court houses and found the deeds, land records, probate and other court records, we were able to get him as far back as 1780 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Another cousin Gene P. Amick came forward with the Amick family register that had all the names and dates needed to tie the Cummings family together. At this time we are still researching, and maybe with a lot of luck we might finally be able to trace him back to Ireland. This website is for the Cummings family and all the related families that married into the Cummings family. If I left anything or anybody out, please feel free to email me and I will add anything or correct anything that pertains to all these family lines.
